Bitcoin can secure a separate service
Babylon's documented staking mechanism locks native BTC through Bitcoin scripts and time conditions to support security commitments. It uses Bitcoin's transaction-output model rather than requiring the same design as a wrapped BTC token. This product does not replace Bitcoin's proof-of-work mining consensus with proof of stake.
BTC stake and the coordination network
Babylon Genesis provides a coordination layer, while the committed BTC remains subject to its Bitcoin spending conditions. A finality provider's role and the relevant slashing conditions are part of the staking arrangement. A separate network token and native BTC collateral should not be treated as the same economic exposure.
A committed balance is not liquid inventory
Reported staking TVL values committed capital under the provider's scope. It does not establish an immediately spendable balance, a uniform reward rate or guaranteed redemption at a requested time. Read the actual stake's timelock and unbonding route. Products that issue an additional receipt on top of the stake add another layer to examine.
Security conditions matter to recovery
- Review the chosen finality provider and the commitments that can trigger penalties.
- Understand timelocks and the covenant/signature assumptions in the relevant staking design.
- Bitcoin network fees, staking penalties and secondary receipt liquidity are separate costs or risks.
