  • CAGR assumes no deposits or withdrawals between the two dates. Use XIRR when cashflows occur during the investment.
  • The annualized return uses actual elapsed UTC days divided by 365. Enter both values in the same quote currency.
  • This calculation does not add taxes, fees, inflation or a forecast of future returns.

Formula and worked example

CAGR = (ending / starting value)^(365 / actual days) − 1. XIRR solves the dated discounted cash-flow sum equal to zero, using actual days / 365. Only one negative-to-positive aggregate cash-flow sign change is supported.

Hypothetical example: 1,000 growing to 1,210 over 730 days is a 21% total return and 10% CAGR. A contribution of −1,000 followed by a receipt of 1,100 exactly 365 days later gives 10% XIRR. Include an explicit final value as a receipt if the position is still held.

These estimates use bounded decimal arithmetic. They are scenario calculations, not trading instructions or forecasts.
